My Process for custom creations

With the exception of my maintenance products and items marked as “Premade,” everything I offer is made to order, crafted by hand, start to finish, just for you.

I rarely (if ever) make items exactly the same, so anything I make for you will be a one of a kind piece. Each piece is individually serialized, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity.

Your project is more than just a product—it's a collaborative journey. I invite you to be part of the process, watching your piece evolve from a rough stack of wood into something truly special.

Have a unique idea or request? Let me know! I’m always open to new ideas and love finding creative ways to bring your vision to life.

Below, you’ll find my process for cutting boards—but this same level of care and customization goes into everything I make.

Step 1:

Wood Selection

After your purchase, I’ll reach out via email to show you the exact wood I plan to use for your board, and give you some font options for the engraving you select (if you choose to add an engraving) If there’s a specific wood you’d love to see included—or one you’d prefer I leave out—just let me know. I’ll do my best to honor your preferences while letting the natural character of the wood guide the creative process

Step 2

Wood Placement

Once I’ve come up with the design and arranged the wood, I’ll send you a pic so you can see what your future masterpiece looks like in its awkward "teenage years" phase. It might look a little rough in this stage—but trust me, it’s all part of the process. I’ll clean it up, shape it, and work it until it turns into the treasure it was meant to be.

Step 3

Shaping Complete

Once all the wood has been joined, cleaned up, and everything's in its proper place, I’ll send you a photo of the (almost) final design. It’s not quite finished yet, but we’re in the home stretch—just hang in there a little longer. The magic is about to happen!

Step 4

Fin

Once your piece is complete and I’ve applied the first coat of oil, I’ll send you a photo so you can see the final colors and grain come to life. This is the moment when the wood really starts showing off—deep tones, rich character, and all the personality that was hiding beneath the surface.

About David Mason

I am a proud United States Navy veteran, where I spent over a decade working on advanced weapon system electronics and computer systems, completing six overseas deployments while serving onboard USS Vincennes (CG-49), USS San Jacinto (CG-56) USS Preble (DDG-88) and USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG-81).

Originally from Maryland and now based in Pittsburgh, I discovered woodworking more than ten years ago as a creative and rewarding outlet beyond my military career. Today, I apply my hard-learned dedication, precision, and craftsmanship to building beautiful pieces of functional art from wood.

When you can do common things in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world. - George Washington Carver
